Bullshit of the Purest Ray Serene *annoyed look* So, if you believe the news reports, Alito sent a thank-you note to James Dobson of Focus on the Family. And if you believe Dobson, Alito singled him out personally for a thank-you.

Sure he did. I believe that like I believe the moon is made of green cheese.

Note these three points from the article on CBS News, which an angry mind might overlook:

1. Focus on the Family founder James Dobson said Wednesday that new Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito sent him a letter thanking him and his radio listeners for their support during his Senate confirmation hearings.

I've underlined the important part. Dobson said. DOBSON said. Anyone think he might POSSIBLY have a hidden motive in saying this? Possibly?

2. Supreme Court spokeswoman Kathy Arberg said Alito's note was in response to a letter Dobson sent congratulating him on his confirmation. She said his pledge to "keep in mind the trust that has been placed in me" was included in many replies he wrote to congratulatory letters.

Again, underlining of the important parts. Dobson prompted the thank-you note by sending a congratulation letter. And Alito probably had a stack of those to respond to. Is this what Dobson thinks it is? Suuuuure it is.

3. Focus on the Family declined to release a copy of Alito's letter but confirmed the wording read by Dobson.

Uh huh. That's so they, and Dobson, can continue to spin this to Dobson's loyal audience of sheeplisteners that this thank-you note, which was probably just one step up from a form letter, means that Justice Alito singled them out personally and of course he will do what they want before he will be an honest jurist and uphold the law.

I call bullshit.
